#Letthemref initiative
Remember NO ref NO game, the choice is yours
On Sunday 31st October, Hashtag United youth secretary and Under 13’s coach Nick Lowery trialled the #LETTHEMREF campaign during his home game.
The idea around this is to encourage the correct atmosphere at games, to encourage parents, coaches and players to respect the referees decisions.
Hashtag United Youth are encouraging all our our teams to support this campaign starting this weekend 7.11.2021
Whats involved and how can we help or take part………
Nick Commented : This involves both teams and the referee lining up to face the spectator sideline and conducting a 30 second silence with fingers to lips This is to promote appropriate communication from coaches and parents to the referee
Don't stop someone else from making history
- On Most occasions the Referee will be a School child or student
- They are still learning and improving
- There will be decisions they get wrong
- Some decisions might go against you – It’s not a conspiracy
- Don’t judge them like and experienced premier league Referee
- They love the game as much as you and your child do
- Most have played the game or are still playing too
- If these guys don’t do it, one of you might have to
Rebecca Welch Makes History
Welch is the first female to have been appointed to a match as an English Football League referee; the 37-year-old oversaw Port Vale’s 2-0 away victory at Harrogate on Easter Monday; Dermot Gallagher tells SSN there is no “ceiling” for what Welch can achieve following her EFL debut

They work hard, train hard, show up and play hard – all to keep the game beautiful. They give their time and yet face negative attention and abuse in almost every match. Enough is enough. We can all play our part to show the ref some respect, to help make the game the best it can be. So, are you in?
